Cautious
Pakistan team is more cautious of Spain than the Netherland.Pakistan has got advantage of Australian's absence and should struggle their last on particularly to Spanish and Holland.But it is fact that Pakistan will win by the grace of Allah because of many advantages it got.Australia not in,being a host team,India and N-Z already down,German already out.

Decider
It would be the decider for confirming position in final. If pakistan wins it would be straight road to final. Dutch may win
Dutch may win due to their balance in field. They have bad Australian coach but still make chance as their individuel talent(mentaly, physically and sensible discipline). They also respect pakistani Hockey talent and are not afraid to lose if lose. Dutch coach for Pakistan is God gift, so it may help then to make through for final. I still wish a good win for Pakistan, They are working very hard with Dutch Coaches(who still need more encourgement to work in our most difficult culture where we mix religion sport and politcs. extensively). Good luck to all pakistani player and coaches from Holland.

Match of the tournament
I would give ducth team 10% more chance over pakistan because they can play really good defensive game when they need the most. how ever, its does'nt mean that paksitan have no weapons and no game plan . Pakistan got a real good offense this time aorund and good coach so cheer for pakistan will win this time InshaAllah.

I don't think Pakistan has a snowball's chance in hell of pulling this over. The best realistic possibility for them is to coax out a draw.
IMO, Pakistan is highly over-rated this time around. Going on current form and performance I can easily see a Spain/Holland final; Pakistan, with some luck, maybe clinching the third place.
Oh and dutch are real good body players. Last CT final played in Pakistan anybody?

Holland have slight edge than pakistan, but who knows Sohail Abbas Power.
Pakistani's have to really work hard in thier field goal, if they will do, than with the support of Sohail, they can easily win. Anyways, my all prayers are with pakistan but on the table, Holland may will win the match.

If India's Performance can put in difficulity to Holland,why Pakistan cannot win over Holland ???

Being Host still alone.
Pakistan and India both have to collaborate each other to put their all struggle on final matches but unfortunately,Indian team is declining day by day and Pakistan is alone in Asia,In other hand there is only one pillar in Asia who can defend all Dutches and Spanish invaders.India need to support Pakistan this time.

Pakistan Vs Holland
This will really be a tough game for both teams. Holland will be very cautious after they struggled to beat India by 5-4.
Pakistan have a Home crowd advantage and should put all their efforts to beat Holland. Pakistan players have the capability to beat Holland and if they do, they will be Champion of CT which I very much hope. My best wishes to my western brothers.

Hope floats....for Match of The Tournament
Hope floats for both NEDS and PAKS...Both teams are hanging in a balance and as I earlier predicted, this encounter will be the Match of The Tournament. I though think that the spectators will see more defensive play by both teams than offensive attacks. 2-0 would be a lucky scorline for Pakistan if they win, as during 1994 CT at Lahore, they beat NEDS with similiar margin and also during Sydney 2000 Olympics, Pakistan trounces the NEDS with same scoreline. I will favor Pakistan to win but more than that I will promote the game as the best game of 2004 CT. No match of this encounter with any of the other games. Also The award for Player of the Year is on cards, it will be a battleground for Sohail and Ronald.....Winner might take all!!!!! Lets wait and see 1 hr remaining to the start of game!!!

Is anybody able to get the video stream on fieldhockey.tv ? I'm not able to see ANY match - nor the live ones, or the default ones (Dutch league) or the ones In Demand (for which I paid earlier).
Just wanted to check if its just me...

I have always thought that Pakistan had the best team in Hockey in last decade or so.They just need to tighten defence like europeans do and they will very tought to beat.
Yes I am sad that Indian hockey is on the decline.I think more matches with Pakistan(test series kind of things) will bring the fire back in the belly of the indians.

I believe that it will a be good match. But of course it has no concern with the records or history. Every matach has its importance. Of course both teams are equally good. its very crucial match as pakistan ,holland and spain after 2 matches have won all, so now pakistan -holland match if its a draw is great but any team looses will affect directly for finals....... so i hope pakistan shouldnt loose but at least pull out a draw ! or even if they loose then they will have to win remaing games which will be tough and unpredictable as no one can predict game b/w Pakistan /ind ...that always have different temparament and pace as both shows always classic asian style of hockey! and ahead is spain which is now top team i would say ,and will make it to finals,so finals will be b/w either Pakistan-spain or holland-spain? lets see?

Who is responsible of Pakistan's Failure
According to me Pakistan's hockey failure is not one day matter. The system adopted by Pakistan Hockey Federation is very poor. Hockey from roots i mean in school has finished. Steps must be taken to coach the physical training teachers of schools and must bound the heads of school to choose the boys from 6th class 12 year of age boys. Due to lack of merit and politics Hockey has fallen. It is so sad that Hockey is national game of Pakistan but the concentration is on cricket and on other games. I suggest that bring the merit on root level and pay attention on Distric Hockey associations for their better performance.

Past performance is just a comfort
Please don't underestimate Indians. They have scored 4 goals against Holland. Even, NZ has scored 2 against them. By looking at today's encounter, Pakistan (losing 1-4 to Dutch) team seems like going downhill in this tournament, where as Indians despite their initial thrashing have bounced back to defeat Germans 3-1.
The tournament is very much poised for exciting finish as Spain is playing butiful Hockey and Holland is invinciible after todays win. I predict, India & Pakistan will have to fight it out for 3rd place in this tournament.

Pakistan will play for 3rd position
After this loss, Pakistani team has no hope for final. To be in the final Pakistan has to win both matches with 8 plus goals, which is not possible; the way they played last 3 matches. Good luck Pakistan and India for 3rd and 4th position.

yup, we all withnessed today that our countryfellows screwed up ... again ... I haven't got any comments at all, I kinda saw a defeat coming but this score is really nasty! I want to say that Pakistani fans should stop their Pakistan-India bullsh*t. I see on the website an article that fans are too intressted in Pak-Ind match, wether it is about hockey or cricktet. I say ... you both suk at hockey and cricket... Neither one of these countries is "really" heading for 1st place in worldchampionship. India suk at hockey, Pakistan is slightly better but when it comes to serious teams like Holland or Spain they screw it all...

Pakistan lost against Holland at a very bad goal points.I was thinking it will win over Holland but will lose over Spain.My prediction was first spain second holand and third Pakistan but it seems something is changing.If Spain win over Holland and pakistan win over India there might have chances to make up this deficiency.But pakistan still need to win over spain and India to try for the final.
FACT IS THAT HOLLAND AND SPAIN HAVE THE CHANCES OF FINAL.

Disappointed
I was hoping Pak will thrash Holland and bring the Champions back to the sub-continent. Looks like thats not to be. Why is Pakistan choking so badly when it matters? In Athens, I was hoping for Pak to make semis, but they lost miserably against Spain. What is wrong with India and Pak? Atleast we know whats the problem with India - an egoistic megalomaniac heading the association and screwing up the team left and right. I cant understand why Gagan and Deepak Thakur are not even in the team. India seems to be cursed. Either great players like Rajnish Mishra and Jugraj Singh get injured and go out of action or the dumb Gill and his crony Jyoti put good players like Gagan and Deepak out of action. Pakistan seems to have talented players in the playing eleven, a good coach, and a reasonable administration, I pray to God they will see better days. As much as I love to see and India-Pak match, I would rather like to see it in a final, and not in fight for bronze.

I played hockey in both pakistan and canada. About an year ago I gave some suggestions to PHF secretary regarding improvements. I was surprised about his prompt and positive response. I discussed some short terms plans especially regarding fitness of players.
A couple of months ago I sent another email regarding the facts but got another surprise in the form of no response.
The reality is our attitude. As a nation we r not on right track. Our boys spend 50 Rs per day on dabbu but dont wanna play hockey. Hockey is a positive activity but dabbu isnt. So money is not the real problem. The difference between hockey and dabbu is that all requirements of dabbu r available (table etc) but not for hockey. So phf should build one room on each hockey ground and provide 25 sticks, couple of balls, and other accessories . Its not a big deal they r earning millions.
Try to create some technical terms like
ball dribbling speed
ball travelling speed
ball stoping and releasing time.
Hit strength
maximum running speed of a player
I know if they release this data we will be far behind than Europeans.
We should ask for this data not for general comments like "if players played according to their plans then definitely we r gonna win".
I know our forwards are even slower than Eurpean defenders but still they are claimed as stars.

Soft goals !
I think having watched the match Holland had the edge over Pakistan but the score was a bit flattering ,though 2-1 would have been a fair reflection and the last two goals conceded were rather soft goals.
Under Oltman , the team have learnt the art of defending but, seem to have sacrificed the free flowing attacking hockey which was typical of Pakistani style .
At present the team is relying too much on Sohail Abbas , which is putting pressure on him .Pakistan need to work on scoring field goals and I am afraid the forwards lack the ability to finish off the chances created.

Watchin the Pakistani team play for the past few days I strongly feel that Pakistan lacks the finish. One thing I can't understand is why do they go for a reverse flick and miss an easy chance. Ok, the reverse flick looks spectacular and it gives u that extra pace to beat the goalie but it takes that extra second from u whicg is vital to put the golie off guard. Pakistani Forwards are not bad, they can penetrate well. But they lack the finish. I wonder what would happen after this CT. Waseem and Sohail Abbass are going to retire. And we don't have enough backups. PHF must wake up now.

well still Pakistan can make it to finals if they beat spain and india as holland already beat spain so they are same as pakistan now with one lost! so if Pakistan beat spain ,spain will have two lost matches and on points basis Pakistan can still make it , gotta win against india and spain, no draw buddy!
