I couldn't find any charm in watching this Indian team without Gagan Ajit / Prabhjot and Deepak Thakur / Pillay / Balijt Dhillon like forwards.
These faces are new and good, but they have to learn a lot before filling up the seniors places.
I couldn't remember a match between India and Pakistan where Gagan hadn't scored (Irespecive of the result)

Pakistan has edge
There's no doubt that pakistan holds an edge over India, but as the match is a fight among close rivals, no one can predict the scores. Sohail Abbas is the player to watch, if Indians can keep him cool, or if he's in his bad day, Indians can cruise home.

Mr.Amarpreet...
Well i cant remember when did Gagan trap the ball properly recently... i cant remember when did Balli run around on the field for 10 full mins without puffing.... i cant remeber when did Prabhjot make a darting good move on the left flank and helped India win or salvage some pride....
Now Mr.Amarpreet seems like you have a soft and i mean REAL SOFT corner for Gagan and grp.I too am big fan of Gagans and his reverse hits and his instinctive hockey.. but for heavens sake and the 1000th and one time... HOCKEY is a team game.. one cannot stand upfront at the other end and wait for the ball to fall at ur feet and knock it IN... no re baba... u hv to run... make tackles win the ball... help others... i mean team mates and PLAY FOR INDIA and not ONESELF!!!!
If your Gagan and grp can understand this then.... yeah good for INDIA... cause v do miss some1 with the talent of GAGAN AJIT SINGH!!!!
Btw.... India Vs Pak will be decided by Adrian or Sohail and no 1 else!!!!

No more wasting time or money watching India play coached by Ruddy gutless German. Hope Pakistanis will give them a real whipping which should rub the smile of the Germans face and so called useless supporters of Indian Hockey.

coaching
pesonally i feel india doesnt have the players or the skill to play the top sides. this is also true of the seniors who got dumped. a foreign coach can only tell his players to play to a plan, its up to the players to carry it out. right now all ours players are unfit and scared of the gora.. got to have some confidence look at the way gupta was thrown to the ground by the dutchman, he fell like a rag doll. this is the state of our players. ric or rach, neither will make a differerence, indian hockey will remain in the dumps for some time. things need to change in the schools now so that the team in 10 yrs time can be up to the mark. another thing is that all the european players have gone thru uni, ours are poor and from the villages. a uni student will have more drive to win than our boys, they are strong mentally because their minds are trained to be the best, ours come out of the villages and they get overawed by the roads they see in west. this is a major reason for the failure of teams from the subcontinent. being a turbaned sikh, players like ajitpal and surjit exuded confidence and become heros for me and others, look at gagan and jugraj, born in sikh families they dont even look sikh. if they dont even have pride in their background how will they win, and dont tell me harpal is a sikh and hes screwing up, hes still young and will improve will time. cmon u boys of sardars represent ur own in form and with pride, our youngsters need heros not bollywood heros. last i heart sodhi the punjab cricket player has also cut his hair. now thats really distressing.

Anybody's Game
Both teams playing in a Asian style, and there Player knows each others. So it's difficult to predict which team can be a winner, although Pakistan has a sightly edge of Sohail Abbas, but still Pakistan not playing the way as he is famous for. Although he won first 2 matches but still not proforming as expected and thats the reason pakistan loss against Holland. Anyhow we will expect Pakistan performing well in upcoming matches.

This game will be between Adrian V/S Sohail.
Pak. team has over dependence over Sohail, to convert every Pc they gain, and India will fallback to Adrian to save them, as Indian defenders are known to gift PC's...
Anyway, if adrian can thrawt first 2 Pc's that sohail takes, then we will have a game, else....
But all in all let's hope for a good game.

Now We can't afford even a draw .... Pakistan.
With india 3-1 over Germany and spirits high , pakistan have to play well and have to make goals out of their chances.
Against holland, Pakistan played well on field but on scoreboard holland won.
We need in forwarders, players those can make goals out of opportunities but till now they are missing everything.

Axing Forwards
Mr Jharkhand,
The only kill with the India team is the striking in the circle, which only can be done by Gagan like strikers.
BTW, let's wait and watch this team and try to compare with the team which beat Pakistani friends 7-4 last year.
Polishing talent is coach's job. We can't axe talented players only due to their tactics.

Mental Strength
I think we (Pakistan) have got a good team and a good approach, the only thing lacking is the mental strength. In the big matches, they play under lot of pressure and miss very easy chances. That is what happened against Holland. But against India, I hope they wont be under such pressure and will win easily.

Strikers
Strikers need talent and talents are inborn - so there is no meaning of sacking Gagan Ajit after accepting the fact that he has talent. There should be plans where they can be incorporated, may be they can be allowed to play when the match opens up a bit. It's true that Gagan's trapping ability was not at per with International standards in the recent Olympics, still you should remember form is temporary & class is permenent.

There is a sense of desperation to win in the current indian side. The previous forwards did not seem to care....the midfielders are doing all the scoring but if india wins this one then the group pool will be fun one to see. take care people and do not bring god into the game. God belongs to all of us not a particular community for that matter. Discuss hockey here and not religious fervour.

And one thing more. Who gove Harpal/Xalco an edge over Kanwalpreet for selection. Kanwalpreet is still young and fit, We can watch the previous recordings and see how he plays against pakistan.
I still believe that game against pakistan is more a mental game. This can only be be played by gutsy players like the above I mentioned , adding to the list is Kanwalpreet and Jugraj (Bad luck he is not fit). We will see the pressure on both the sides and this match is in Pakistan, it will make the difference.
Still I love the players who are courageous and play with the kill. I hate players accepting their defeat very easily and this foreign coach is not a shadow of Rajinder (Who was coach in Junior world cup for India).
What about a match between Ex India players and this Indian team ??????

second string
guess the ihf really likes to kill indian hockey after winning the asian cup in 2003 the team got disbanded since from there on we are loosing and only manage to beat second strung teams.
untill the crop of players like gagan deepak jugraj and bimal lakra are called back and blended with this team thats playing in this CT 2004 then only we can achive some results.
the fowards look too pathetic against a classy team see today against the game v/s pakistan they hardly made any moves
also the bench strength is too poor many of them are just used to warm the benches rather than playing on the field
well if we keep on experimenting then we will get no where
a rolling stone gathers no moss
i hope some one can dig some sense to the ihf

but Pak could have easily win by a larger margin.......Shabbir missed about 3 or 4 straight chances....Pakistani team played good in the 1st half and Salman Akbar didn't had to do much, but Indians made a come back in the 2nd half and after their penalty corner specialist, Sandeep, I think....scored the goal, the game was looking pretty shaky. Pak achieved about 5 PC, but Sohail failed to convert them....The Indian GK have a nice plan for Sohail....I hope Pak wins, bujt Spain has better chances b/c even if the game is drawn, they will reach the finals....but who knows..:D

INDIA (*)
India simply don't know how to keep the ball, or rather don't seem to want to keep it. They don't understand the value of possession. They have a generic strategy -- pass the ball around the defence, lob it up field and hope it goes to an attacker. Zero tactics, 100% impulsive stupidity! 9 times out of 10 the lob is always intercepted by opposing team... the ball practically handed on a plate to the opposition! The strategy is dumb because the Indian players have good intricate stick skills which are never seen because of the stupid long-ball strategy. IT DOESNT WORK.
And another thing: it seems that the Indian defence likes to play ping-pong with eachother during the game! It's as if none of the defenders want the ball!
PAKISTAN (*
Pakistan on the other hand have very good passing and counter-attacking moves. But the finishing in recent games has been pathetic. Believe it or not, this attack is one of the worst in the game... totally lack-lustre. In the last 7/8 games they have played The forwards have missed absolute sitters. And its cost dearly. Barring a miracle, it will be Holland and Spain in the final. And Asian hockey weeps again.

We Lahorees would like to give our thanks to the Indian team for showing up to the event in the place of Australia. Our Indian neighbours are always most welcome in Pakistan.
Secondally, it was sad that we won the game in such a controversial manner. I know we badly needed the points but this isn't the way to get them . The young Indian team showed a lot of guts against the rowdy crowd and our much more experienced side. As a die-hard Pakistani Hockey fan, even I have to admit the Indians were a little unlucky and had key decisions go against them. This game will be meaningless if we don't beat spain and win the final. Good luck!

India lost by 2-1. Umpire given PS to Pakistan in last minutes when it was rather difficult for pakistan to score against stubborn indian boys, the umpire helped them.
This normally happen in favour of hosting nations because umpires want their safety after the game. Same thing happened recently in Chandigarh against Spain who was definitely a better side than Indians.

look ahead
The match is over, Pak 2-1 india; that says it all.
Now is the time to look ahead. Pak meets spain next, and that would be a virtual semi-final. Its a must-win situation for pakistan, while spain can do with a draw. May be, this turn out to be a positive thing for pakistan; with pakistan going all out and spanish players having defensive strategy in the back of their minds. Knowing the spanish players though, i can assure that if there would be any defensive strategy, at most it would be in the BACK of their minds, not in front.
And i think that penalty stroke given to pakistan was a fair one, indian players just about appealed against every decision that went against them in this match; so their reaction cant be seen as a proof of that not being a fair penalty corner.... and remember one pakistani goal was disallowed, saying that the ball had risen dangerously,, although no opposition player was standing close.. Hockey, like cricket, is a great leveller..
I wish Pakistan all the best against spain and then , hopefully, in the finals...
