AS clubs prepare to return to action next week after the festive break let's take a look at what's happening in the league tables.

In Section One Pegasus are in the same position this time last year - on top of the pile.

The Belfast side of course went on to lift the title but it doesn't look like they'll run away with it this year as the first part of this season has been interesting to say the least.

Ballymoney made an excellent start staying in pole position for the first few weeks but the mighty Pegasus caught up and are currently five points above the County Antrim girls.

Ballymoney do have a game in hand though so it's still very much all to play for and their standard speaks for itself as they are the only league side to have as many as four current Irish internationals on their team, including Ireland's captain Lynsey McVicker.

Many would accept the title race is limited to the two teams above so second and third place are the realistic aim of most others.

Belfast Harlequins, Ards and Randalstown look to be the main contenders for the All-Ireland play-offs but don't write off Knock and Omagh, the latter who have had an excellent return season so far in Section One.

In Section Two Lisnagarvey have had a magnificent run, especially considering it's their first season in the Senior League, and they are currently on top three points ahead of North Down.

Close rivals Lurgan and Armagh are definite title contenders in the Qualifying League but Banbridge are keeping hot on both their heels so, again, watch this space!

All the action will be starting again next week but until then I'll take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year!
