WorldHockey Umpiring Boost 2005 and 2006
The WorldHockey Umpiring Boost (WHUB) is an FIH project, jointly organized by the Umpiring Committee and the Development and Coaching Committee, whose overall objective is to help as many National Associations as possible to encourage, promote and develop Umpiring in their own country. Due to take place over 2005 and 2006 it is intended that the project will be on-going with a lasting effect, and not just be seen as a one-off. This project recognizes the twin needs of addressing the worldwide shortage of umpires and the requirement to maintain an improvement in umpiring standards.
National Teams
Congratulations to all the athletes and staff who just competed at the Junior Womens Chile 4 Nations Event. The players, coaching staff and umpire were excellent ambassadors for Canada.
Observations from the tournament indicate that Canadas U21 Team is a group with great potential; however, other countries are improving at a faster rate. It emphasizes the need for a more structured and permanent junior program.
Up next for the Junior National Teams are the Junior Pan American Championships to be held in Havana, Cuba February 16th 27th and San Juan, Puerto Rico March 16th 27th for the men and women respectively. These are the qualifying tournaments for the Junior World Cups to be held later in 2005.
