What?!
How can India be ranked above Spain??
Spain were 4th at the Olympics & 1st at the Champions Trophy. India was 7th & 4th respectively. Is there not a greater weighting for the Olympics, which is the most important tournament in the world..
These don't seem to have any relevance to current form at all... who really cares anyway?

i dont see where any of this has come from????? and i also believe that there has (yet again!!!) been a bad piace of journalism here being that GB is made up of MORE THAN ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!! this annoys me as for the 1st time in a long time there has been 3 scotsman in the olympic GB team. as everyone knows the GB squad has always been heavily weighted towards english players undeservibly. this is why scotland and GB recently lost one of the best players of all time due to bias selection for the olympic squad, therefore scotland being punished for it. although he was very unlucky in not getting his dutch visa in time for the olympics. whoever wrote this please take note that there is more than one country involved in the GREAT BRITAIN team!!!!! (being why they are not called england in the olympics!!)

Scottish,
So far as rankings etc go, for GB to gain automatic qualification (obviously if automatic qualification doesn't happen, then GB enters the qualifying tournament) for the Olympics depends on the performance of England (since they are the highest ranking of the home nations). Since GB only exists around the time of the Olympics, then the FIH assigns any points gained by GB to England on the same basis, since it is also the case that it is England's position in the Rankings that determines GB's seeding in the pools.
As for where the rankings come from, there are more details on the FIH website.

When GB were reliant on undeserved English players they did quite well. Thanks Scottish guys for taking GB/England to the lowest ranking in over 20 years!!!

england is only the highest ranking home nation because they get the points of GB. i didnt say that all the english players didnt deserve to be there, what i meant was that scottish players have always had to deal with english coaches and so on meaning there was never 100% fair selection and lets face it, its never going to be fair with more than one country involved. and i am also not only talking about this year, take chris southerland in 1988 for example, he was left out of the olympics because he missed 1 training session due to playing in a dutch final for his club. and the same also hapend to lawrence docherty which resulted in him leaving for holland which meant his home country(scotland) suffering too. i'm not just a winging scot but a guy with an opinion so please look past my origin and look at these examples. no englishmen were dropped for this!

'88 Why does that year seem familiar ?
So we dropped a sweaty for the 88 olympics and won gold with a bunch of undeserving sassenachs. Perhaps we'd still be doing as well if the same stringent selection policies were in place. But well done to Pappin for representing scotland in Seoul, all 25 seconds of his participation was of exceptional quality.

Pakistan should be ranked behind Spain too. Infact Spain are more than a match for both Holland & Germany. India are not worthy of 5th place. India have lost to several teams ranked lower eg NZealand, Malaysia Belgium, Ireland & today they lost to France, let alone Spain!!
My rankings are:
1. Australia
2. Spain
3. Holland
4. Germany
5. Pakistan
6. S Korea
7. N Zealand
8. Argentina
9. India
10. England

Shenze
You are very generous as I would have placed England no higher than 14th and most certainly not in the top 10.

spain in ranking
I am agreed with both Shenzi and asghar khan that Spain should be ranked above both India and Pakistan and how the germany stood first? I think that australia should be on the top followed by holland and spain.
