England: Review of future use of the National Hockey Stadium by 'hockey

The National Hockey Stadium is owned by a separate charitable trust (The National Hockey Foundation). England Hockey, the governing body of the sport, has not had access to the stadium for hockey since the demise of the previous governing body in 2002.

England Hockey is pleased to confirm the appointment of PMP to undertake a strategic review and evaluation of the future use of the National Hockey Stadium for hockey. The stadium is currently being used by MK Dons FC (previously Wimbledon FC) who, it is planned, will move into their new stadium in 2006. The recommendations regarding the future use of the stadium for hockey will be made following an extensive consultation exercise with key stakeholders and the membership of England Hockey. The recommendations will provide the National Hockey Foundation with a clear statement of the intent of England Hockey in terms of future use of the Stadium.

PMP will be undertaking initial consultation between now and February, following which questionnaires will be available for the membership of England Hockey to contribute their views. English Hockey....who...?

Why have a centre and also stop wasting our money? We have a great opportunity to dump MK. It was built in the wrong place...the big stand on the wrong side...freezing to sit in it even in the summer. Not used by National Teams to train....dump it. Use Cannock, Reading, Old Loughtonians and Beeston. Expand those Centres now! I see we will be wasting more money on Consultants who no doubt as always have ties with members of the Committee, the Chief Exec etc. We dont need Consultants we need more brains who know what they are doing! I hear that the England Junior squads are going to Spain and Gibraltar at Xmas...why...have we suddenly found a pot of gold...if we want good weather why not use Southern pitches in this country at Universities where the students are away. I bet there will be so many officails never seen before going. Who is in charge of this....make him or her accountable. How much will parents ahve to contribute to give people holidays! Stop wasting money...now ...or we will have no game left!

Money wasted The definition of a consultant is..... Someone who has never had a real job, making money telling those who should do their own job properly how to do the job wrong and getting well paid for it. The definition of a committee decision is... Lets build a camel. What is a camel? A project to build a race horse given to a consultant by a committee, designed by an architect, planned by engineers, funded by government bids, supervised by a Qango and built by a building consulting firm. Sounds a bit like England Hockey had a hand in the development of the first camel and improved on it a little by building MK. Sell it and get the left over money working for the sport at the developmental level and not for consultants and shiny bum administrators.
