Ipswich's women took advantage of the inactivity of Premier One's leading two clubs to leapfrog both and go top after squeezing out a 2-1 victory over Doncaster.
With Canterbury and Chelmsford playing each other tomorrow, the East Anglian side were indebted to Vanessa Roberts and Tanya Barnard after Louise Waite had given Doncaster a 14th-minute lead.
Fyffes Leicester moved into second place with a 3-1 win at Olton & West Warwicks, while Slough went fourth after edging a 3-2 victory at home to defending champions Bowdon Hightown despite player-coach Tina Cullen netting her 19th and 20th goals of the season.
The top five are separated by only two points while, below them, Harleston Magpies beat Clifton 3-2 and Trojans were 3-1 victors over a point-less Sutton Coldfield.
In the men's Premier One, defending champions Cannock squandered a 2-0 lead in the last 10 minutes to draw 2-2 with Loughborough Students in their rearranged match.
Penalty corner specialist Simon Ramsden scored twice to take his season's tally to 22, but Paul Wicken bagged a late double, his second from a 70th-minute penalty corner, after Loughborough's Glenn Kirkham had missed a first-half stroke.
The result means Cannock have fallen two points behind leaders and arch-rivals Reading.
