A hockey lesson for NZ in their opening match of Champions Trophy in Lahore- beaten by the Netherlands 5-2


New Zealand has been given something of a hockey lesson in their opening match of the Champions Trophy in Lahore.

The kiwi men have been thumped 5-2 by tournament favourite the Netherlands.

Bevan Hari scored both New Zealand's goals.

The Netherlands led 2-1 at halftime, with Hari hitting back for the kiwis to square things up shortly after the break.

But New Zealand had no answer for three quickfire goals from the Dutch.

Kiwi captain Simon Towns says the Netherlands team were a class act.

Towns says they are in the middle of the European season and were sharper and quicker to the ball than the kiwis.

New Zealand plays hosts Pakistan at 11 o'clock on Sunday night.
