Lesley Hobley has been appointed the women's high performance hockey coach at the Scottish Institute of Sport, and will also take on the role of national team coach.

Currently national team leader in Wales, Hobley has coached English and Welsh squads in the 16-21 age groups for four years, winning European gold, silver and bronze medals.

She also coached Slough to the English league title in successive years, taking them to a European Cup bronze medal three years ago.

More recently, she has been high performance coach at the World Class Hockey centre of excellence in England.

"There is great potential in Scotland," said Hobley, pointing to the number of Scottish players involved in the GB programme. "My role will be to build on the good work already done and create an environment where this potential can be realised."

Scottish Hockey's performance director, Brent Deans, said: "Lesley brings a wealth of experience and her focus on core skills and fitness will be key elements in preparations for the Celtic Cup and European Championships.''

Leslie was doing a great job for Wales, the girls respected her, and results were starting to come through, then she suddenly decides to go and coach in Scotland, harsh words, maybe, from "whatever" but true. Leslie will do well, coaching Scotland, but dont hold your breath, given a better opportunity, or more money, and she will dump them also.

this is professional sport you're talking about (at least it is in the case of a FULL TIME SALARIED position in Scotland). Should Hobley turn down such an opportunity? don't be ridiculous! What were Wales giving her, travel expenses and her weight in leeks? Get in touch with the real world guys!!!!

Les will do a very thorough professional job in Scotland and good luck to her.

MT41 is right...wait till an english job comes up....i agree about the money thing but she basically lead the welsh girls into a complete false sense of security......pack of lies in my opinion...its will be very interesting at the celtic cup cause the welsh girls are going to have more than one reason to want to beat the scots!!!!!!

You are a nation with no ambition beyond the Celtic Cup yet you bleat about World Cup qualification as though you had a one in a million chance of getting into one and use those words to shaft Great Britain and those athletes who aspire to better things.
I saw you at the Europeans and you came last, deservedly. I didn't see your men - oh no, they didn't qualify!
If Lesley has got you fit and made you competitive - even if its only among your Celtic cronies - then you should be thanking her, applauding her and wishing her well for the challenge ahead. Just because she's gone, you don't have to get fat and crap again, do you?
All your comments do is prove she was right to head up north.

Typical comments from you, slag off the Welsh, slag off the Scots, slag off the Irish. Remember it was the majority of English players that failed to qualify for the Olympics, to many prima donnas, and to cocky by half, put together means failure. Funny how most of the primma donnas retired after failing to qualify, why didnt they retire before, then you may have stood a chance.

Totally agree about the cocky prima donnas ... the only thing they have to be cocky about is that they could beat Wales one-legged and blindfolded!
My frustration is that because of the narrow-minded attitude of your administrators and most players you are satisfied with mediocrity like sometimes beating France in the Celtic Cup. You came last at the Europeans and your men failed to qualify! That's appalling!
That's why you wont hang on to decent coaches and that's why you are holding back the careers of good players like Michelle Thomas, who might have a chance of greater things but is stuck in a system which devalues GB.
GB was not solely an English failure. Those players were only in the team because they were the best there were and the fact there were no Welsh players worthy of selection is entirely Wales's failure - and a worse one than England's at that.

What are you going on about, I am not on about the England squad, sorry GB squad, beating Wales, they were not playing Wales to qualify for the Olympics, they were playing the other qualifiers, and they failed, and failed miserably, so dont harp on, about how bad Wales are. There is a lot more money pumped into the England squad, and in my opinion, it was wasted money, they didnt come up with the goods. I agree with your comments on Michelle Thomas though, a fine player, glad there is at least one person in Wales you like. Anyway thats enough fencing with you, I'm done.
