Coach Gerhard Rach has lashed out at the media for its negative coverage of the Indian hockey saying the Indians were trying their best and had the potential to become unbeatable.
"The media should not always be negative. It should also write positive things about us. This will boost the morale of the players," Rach told reporters at the Premier Hockey League launch show here last night.
"Perhaps, we are not level with some teams right now, but the boys are trying real hard," he said. "After all, you can't build a house in one day." The German was full of praise for his boys. "Each member of the team has the ability to become a world-class player. I am working with them and they have the potential to become unbeatable," he said.
"In fact, they are practising so hard, that I have to keep them away from the field. They are mentally strong and they know how good they are. We certainly don't need a psychologist to know that," Rach said.
Evidently, Rach was not amused by media criticism of India's performance against Spain in the two-Test hockey series this week.
"We had a terrific game against Spain and the result is not always the main thing," Rach said referring to India's loss to Spain at Chandigarh last Sunday, in which the home team squandered a two-goal advantage to eventually lose 2-3 to the Europeans.
Both teams split the Test series with one win apiece after India managed a 3-2 revenge win over Spain on Tuesday.

i totally agree with rachs view on the media, while the media goes gaga over a cricket test win on south africa which has come with its weakest test side, there was miniscule coverage on the test series with spain as the sport concerned was hockey
my dear media freinds india is not a rich country and if you check the statistic majority of them live in villages and live below the poverty line the reason i emphasise on this is that the moning news papers are often splashed with guys living on the top income bracket having gala times in the posh hotels and resturants while millions go without a single meal
the media tends to disasociate them selves with hockey as there is no money involved and often the players themselves stay in dormatories where the living conditions are harsh and where the cricketer would run miles from
the media men have you seen how our hockey sportsmen and women live prior to tournaments have you people even thought of that then why criticize their performance
hockey is a world wide sport not cricket played by 8 countries of the world and the media goes gaga over india being the 3rd now in test status while in one dayers the cricket team is ranked 7th but nothing is said about the hockey team who are ranked 5th in the world out of 150 hockey playing countries
