I dont think he will retire, he has so much still to offer.
If he ever did, and it would be a shame, Pakistan would be in real trouble in front of goal.
As I said I reckon theres no way he's going to retire.

sohail
Sohail is a great player, sportsman and human being. His retirement will be an era for the game of hockey. I hope he plays for many more years and gives us hockey lovers the joy of watching him play. but we must respect his decision and grant him the place he deservs in today's hockey.

Correct Sohail is a great player but probably best he retires before the start of 2006. For those of you who do not know the rules are being changed then, halving the amount of curve allowed in a hockey stick. It would be very interesting to see Sohail playing with a bow of 25mm in his stick. Lets just say his potency in front of goal would probably halve too. Still, great player and legend of the game.

Sohail is definatly a great player and it would be a great loss to world hockey if he was to retire. it will be interesting to see if pakistan will be able to find a player that will be able to take his role as principal goal scorer for them.

i dont think that the change in the amount of bow will halve sohails scoring ability either. yes it will slow his flick down a bit but he is so accurate it wont make a difference. i think if u gave him a stick with no bow he would probably still be putting them in the back of the net

World Hockey Player of the Year must go to Sohail
I hope this is just a rumor being floated by troublemakers and that Sohail doesnt
retire any time soon. He is the overwhelming favorite for the world hockey
player of the year award this year. I hope he wins the award despite rumors like this.
It is best if Sohail himself comes out and says that he is staying on.

wrong decision!
i think its too early for him to retire ,he still has alot to give plus he can easily pass 300 goals if he keep up like that and should set a record hard to be broken!

he's very young and i think he should retire after 2008 olympics!

in response to steggers88, you will be very surprised. the way in which sohail flicks the ball with his drag flicks is only suited to a stick with a huge curve. Without this curve i guarantee he will have to change his technique completely and as he is not a physically big person will not have any power at all. still, he obviously will have retired before the rule comes in so i guess it doesnt matter

Good with any stick !
Firstly , I hope Shohail decides to carry on ,as he can play on for a few years ,as he definately is a dedicated sportsman ,who takes his training seriously.Anyone ,who has seen Sohail warm up is amazed at his willingness to lead and encourage his fellow team mates.

As far as the bow in the stick is concerned , he was just as deadly with a straight stick. Therefore , new rules will have a small affect ,but, Shohail has the physical power and skill .

For anyone interested, it was Jorge Lombi of Argentina who introduced the bowed stick for flicking at short corners.
