Who ever wrote this article needs to do a bit more research. Womens hockey was introduced in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. We didn't go due to the boycott. The event was won by Zimbabwe

Women's hockey was introduced in Moscow 1980. Zimbabwe who were invited the week before the tournament started (as all the major hockey nations boycotted the event) were unbeaten. Czechoslovakia were second with the USSR taking the bronze. The tournament was played as a round robin.

The first women's Olympic match was played in 1980 im Moscow between Zimbabwe and Poland. Zimbabwe won 4-0 with the first women's Olympic goal being scored by Pat McKillop of Zimbabwe, who was also the top scorer at those Olympics with 6 goals. The placings that Sam states are correct, but with also Austria, Poland and India playing-making a total of a meagre 6 teams.
