Iain Evans, a South African hockey player, has been suspended for one match for the excessively physical play that earned him a red card at the Athens Olympics yesterday.
Evans was sent off the pitch for eight minutes on a yellow card in South Africa's match against Australia but just three minutes after returning to the field he was shown a red card, leaving his team to fight with 10 men for the last half hour.
Evans (23) will now miss South Africa's last pool match against New Zealand. South Africa is fifth in Pool B while New Zealand is third and both are now playing for placement, having failed to qualify for the semifinals. The South Africa' men's hockey team have slumped to their third defeat at the Athens Olympics. They lost 3-2 to champions Australia in an ill-tempered match. - Reuters
